How we research, write, and review

Last updated November 2026

Every page on PeopleOps Guide goes through the same steps. This page explains them, including where we use AI and what we never do.

1. Research

We start from what readers search for and the questions they ask, then gather sources. For anything legal or regulatory we go to the official source for the country it applies to, such as the U.S. Department of Labor, GOV.UK and Acas, the Fair Work Ombudsman in Australia, Employment New Zealand, and Canada.ca. For statistics we trace numbers back to the original study.

2. Writing

Drafts are researched and written with the help of AI tools, following a detailed style and accuracy guide. Every draft then goes through automated checks for sourcing, dates, and the rules below before a human editor reviews it.

3. Human review

Nothing is published without a human editor approving it. The editor checks that the page is useful, that legal points match their official sources, and that software rankings follow our scoring method.

How we compare software

  • A published scoring method. Each comparison lists its criteria and their weights, and the list is ordered by score.
  • Ranking comes first. We score tools before checking whether they have an affiliate program, and we include strong tools that pay us nothing.
  • Dated facts. Prices and ratings show the date we checked them, because they change.
  • Only real experience. When we describe a product’s screens, it’s because we walked through its public product tour or demo, and we show the screenshots. When we share user experiences, we quote real users and link to where they said it. We never present someone else’s experience as our own, and we don’t claim to have tested a tool we haven’t.

Templates and policies

Templates are starting points, not legal documents. Where a clause depends on local law, we flag it with a “check local rules” note and a link to the official source. For anything high-stakes, such as terminations or contracts, have an employment lawyer in your location review your final version.

Updates and corrections

Each page shows when it was last reviewed. We re-check pages regularly, and sooner when laws or prices change. If you find an error, email hello@peopleopsguide.com.
